Health Benefits of Wasabi

Wasabi

Wasabi comes from the plant family that also includes horseradish and mustard. Although it is called Japanese horseradish and shares a similar pungent flavor profile to what Americans call simply "horseradish", wasabi and horseradish are different species thus are NOT the same plant!

Wasabi is made by grating the underground-growing stem (AKA rhizome) of the perennial Wasabia japonica plant of the Brassicaceae family.

Horseradish, on the other hand, comes from the same family but is the root of the perennial Armoracia rusticana.

The wasabi plant is notoriously difficult to cultivate, and the freshly grated root loses flavor in 15-20 minutes - thus, fresh wasabi is very expensive. Many establishments "fake it" by using horseradish, mustard, green food coloring, and potentially synthetic ingredients.

Our genuine Japanese wasabi powder has no artificial colors, fillers, or stabilizers!

Our lovely light green wasabi powder can easily be made into a paste by mixing with water, which is frequently served as a spicy condiment to sushi.

The heat is often described as having the ability to clean out one's sinuses, but the sting dissipates faster than the heat from peppers.

It is consumed extensively in Japan and Asia, and is more and more popular in America as sushi too grows in prominence.

It has been studied extensively over the years, and plenty of research confirms that it is fantastic for supporting and restoring thriving health!

Very few people have had wasabi in anything but sushi. However, not only does it have numerous health benefits, but it is actually a greatly underutilized culinary accent!

Here in The Garden of Eden, we have been experimenting with recipes that may have never been done before, and we will be sharing them as we perfect the art of wasabi cuisine!
