Health Benefits of Cumin

Cumin

Cumin is a member of the parsley family! It is the dried seed of the annual Cuminum cynimum herb plant, which can grow to be 1-2 feet tall.

The oblong seeds grow from a flower, and they have 8 ridges with oil canals. Cumin seeds are sometimes mistaken for caraway, another member of the parsley family.

Cumin is a staple spice used in kitchens across the world including the Americas,
Mexico, Spain, India, North Africa and the Middle East, and is said to have been prized across the ancient world as not only a culinary spice, but also as make up, money, and even as a preservative in mummification!

Cumin can be used as whole seeds, or as a powder. It is a key component in chili, taco seasoning, and garam masala.
